Nepal Thrash Bhutan 6–1 in SAFF U-20 Women's Championship Opener
Kathmandu, July 11 – Nepal’s U-20 Women’s National Football Team kicked off their SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship campaign with a dominant 6–1 victory over Bhutan.
Star forward Purnima Rai led the charge for Nepal, netting four goals, including a hat-trick. She scored in the 18th, 53rd, 83rd, and 88th minutes. Senuna Pariyar added two more goals to complete the rout for Nepal.
For Bhutan, Kelden Wangmo scored the lone goal in an otherwise one-sided affair.
With this emphatic win, Nepal has made a strong start in the double round-robin tournament being held in Bangladesh, which features four participating nations: Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.

The tournament will run until July 22, with each team playing the others twice. The team finishing at the top of the standings will be crowned champions.
Bangladesh has historically dominated the competition, winning all four previous editions. Nepal has finished as runners-up twice, in 2018 and 2023.
